The Canonicus Family & Community

Canonicus is a ministry of the American Baptist Churches of Rhode Island (ABCORI).  ABCORI is a Christian denomination with its roots in the religious freedom of Rhode Island.  Canonicus derives its name from Native American leader, Chief Sachem Canonicus, whose story is intertwined with a close relationship with Roger Williams and the founding of the state of Rhode Island. A brief history of Chief Sachem Canonicus can be found here.

The property of Canonicus is a reality due to the generosity of thousands whose lives have been touched by this special place since its founding as a Christian camp in 1948. If you have already enjoyed the special place that Canonicus is, then click on the Alumni page.  Or why not check out the future happenings on our Events Calendar

Being part of the ABCORI family we are connected to several other elements of the community.  Some of those elements exercise their ministry here, while others shine Christ's light further afield.

If you aren't yet a part of this great undertaking, then there are many ways to become actively involved:

Do you need a time of retreat, relaxation and spiritual refreshment?  Why not consider making your reservation for the Pastoral retreat center? This special place, called the Motter Resource Center, is available to those in Christian ministry and mission work at little or no charge, due to donor support.
