Our Commitment to You

Want a summer packed with adventure-filled fun in the sun? Want to make new friends, enjoy
water and outdoor activities, exciting crafts, archery and the huge slip-and-slide? Then
Day Camp is for you! We've got new games, new praise & worship songs (the good ole'
camp favorites too!) and an enthusiasm to help you learn how to deepen your relationship
with God. Sound good? Great!! We're preparing for your arrival.Your Commitment to Us
RESPECT: Always treat others with respect and expect the same treatment in return.
Accept the various cultural and ethnic differences represented among our staff and
campers. Bullying is not tolerated at Canonicus; this includes name calling, teasing,
swearing, fighting, gossip, and hurtful words.
COOPERATION: Always cooperate with your camp counselor and follow directions as
requested. Counselors have your best interest at heart.
EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN VOICE: Always ask your counselor for help when you need it
or when there is a problem.
HELPING ANOTHER PERSON: When you see a person that needs assistance, reach out to
help and encourage them.
WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY: Should an emergency arise at Camp, please listen
carefully and follow your counselor's instructions for the safety of everyone.
WORSHIPPING GOD IN ALL WE DO: We worship God in everything we do each moment of our
lives; this includes the words we speak and our actions towards others.
Daily Activities unique to
Canonicus
Small groups of campers will be matched with an experienced counselor.
The typical ratio is 5 campers to 1 counselor. Each group will
enjoy activities that include praise & worship, Bible study, low ropes course,
swimming, boating, kayaking, hiking, crafts, trading post (camp store), games, waterslide and lots of
opportunities to share the word of God with each other. If you have signed up for a
specialty day camp you will also enjoy activities specifically designed for your specialty
camp in addition to all of our fun daily activities! |

Preparing
Your Child for Camp & Handling "Homesickness"
Parents help prepare and enhance the campers' experience by speaking openly and positively
about the fun things to expect from camp. It is also encouraging when parents share their
own experiences about camping with their children. Reassuring campers that they will have
a fun time with lots of activities and the opportunity to meet new friends, is helpful as
well.
Should a camper become homesick and want to go home, a staff member will
contact the parent/guardian and discuss the situation. We are also happy to provide
parents with a progress report if they are concerned about their child. Parents may
request this by calling our main office, or our Director at extension
100, during regular business hours. A staff member will talk to the Day Camp
Supervisor about the camper's adjustment and progress,
and then she will call parents with the updated information.
Camp policy does not allow parent visitation during the day or for campers to call home.
If you have any questions about our policies, or need additional information, you are
encouraged to call and speak with our Director or Assistant Camp
Director.
Nurses
Pursuant to the ACA standards we have a Registered Nurse who lives on site for
the entire week.
Staff
The Canonicus staff is a trained group of dedicated Christians who are enthusiastic about
working with youth, and sharing the Gospel. Before joining our team, each staff applicant
is carefully screened, including a criminal background check. Staff are trained in all
aspects of our camping program, including leadership, safety, and behavior management. |
Mondays
- Registration
Registration is held every Monday from 8:00 - 8:40am at the Day Camp Field
behind Shaub Lodge by Lake Adams (follow the
signs for registration). Parking is available at the Day Camp Field.
To help registration run efficiently, we encourage everyone to arrive no later than 8:15
am.
The registration process has five steps:
1) Registrar/registration card/permission slips for specialty camps,
2) Camp Nurse/health form registration table
3) Trading Post (store) deposit,
4) Day Camp Director, and
5) Pick-up Authorization Form. Swim tests will be completed during the campers' swim time
later in the day. Emergency
Contacts
Business Hours 9 AM - 5 PM: Please call our main office at
1-800-294-6318 and a member of our office staff will contact the
appropriate camp staff member.
Health Lodge: Extension 143
Behavior Expectations
Our program has high behavioral standards that must be maintained to ensure a safe,
wholesome, and high quality program for all campers and staff. Campers must refrain from
negative physical contact of any sort. Physical and/or verbal aggression is not tolerated.
The Director or Assistant Director will contact a camper's parent
immediately if any such incident occurs. The camper will not rejoin activities and will
remain under staff supervision until he/she is picked up by a parent.
The Hansen
Trading Post (camp store)
Parents may deposit spending money into an account for campers, either prior to camp week
or during our Monday registration. Accounts are used to purchase daily afternoon snacks
and beverages. On average campers spend $1.50 per day for one snack & one drink. A
variety of souvenirs and Canonicus 'Camp Gear,' including sweat shirts and T-shirts, are
also available for purchase. On Friday our store clerk will refund the balance in cash.
Health Forms
Parents must either mail the completed and signed health forms to Canonicus in advance or
bring them to the nurse/health registration table on Monday. In order to ensure the best
possible care for your child in the event of an emergency we need the camper's physician
to complete the Health Form, and the parent to complete all other portions including the
Permission to Treat section. The camper must have been examined within the
past year. No camper will be allowed to register without completed and signed health
forms. All medications (prescription and non-prescription) must be in their original
container with its original label and physician's written instructions for dispensing the
medication. All medications must be handed to the Camp Nurse (RN), who will be onsite for
the week, during the registration process. |
